Thanks, Ziggy. Good article. While I am not an active antique collector, I have gone with friends to flea markets and tag sales. I remember going to a really poor area of New York State and seeing a china pin-cushion doll (minus the pin-cushin) in pristine condition and on a table for 50 cents. I explained to a friend what it was and I thought it may be underpriced and research should be done on the item prior to sale (this was done for the benefit of the dirt-poor people running the thing. They quickly removed the item. Hope they got 5 or 10 bucks for it.

I have also seen clear reproductions being sold as the real macoy. One was a picture perfect SS officer's dagger for $20.00 and "guaranteed" real. The other was a WWI "Blue Max" german flight medal all beat up for $5.00. Right.

Also, Cari Suckcey is a fraud (I just needed to restate this).

<a href="#comment-533" rel="nofollow">@Mikey</a>
Ah, is that a tacky question? Because I was thinking sort of the same thing. At the very least she must be banging someone that's bankrolling her little adventures. I figured out how much money she made from the one multi-day estate sale that she had. At 30% commission she would have made almost nothing on the sale after paying her group of workers, and that wasn't taking into account any advertising that I'm sure she is responsible for - being that she's making 30%. Auctioneers usually hit the seller up for the ads, but then the auctioneer usually only takes 10%.

Thanks for this. Excellent information. All of my elderly relatives canned at one time or another and I have "inherited" several. Probably basically worthless but interesting to get a date nonetheless.

It is shows like this that muddy the waters for real experts and make every jackass out there think they have untold $$$treasures$$$ hidden in their musty old garage and waterlogged, mouse infested basement. They very well may, but it is people like "Cari" who ruin it for the real people out there who deal with this professionally on a daily basis. What do the real folks do when calling on old Mr. Smith who has just seen "Cash and Cari" and think he is being ripped off when he is getting a good deal? Your Roseville example above is an excellent point on this very problem.

My big question is a bit tacky, perhaps, but it is one that is really been eating at me since I have seen "Cash and Cari". Which executive is dating/banging her? I can't explain this show any other way.

The latest episode was another horrorshow as she seemingly gave away a lot of things for nothing, while asking outrageous prices for others. Jazzbo Jim near mint in box for $400? Polychrome cast chandelier $125? Who wouldn't buy those for that kind of price. But a Victorian kitchen clock for $450, that's pretty much high retail for most of those clocks.

And then there was the Roseville info graphic that came up on the screen that said that Roseville pieces can range between $900-1500! Where? In the past two weeks there has been one piece of Roseville on eBay sell for over $900 - a $1700 Futura vase, super scarce. The vast majority of Roseville sells on eBay for under $300, and of the stuff under $300, most is probably a lot less. Yet you know there's going to be some newbie at the next auction who saw that show and bids $200 for a $100 vase and thinks they got a good deal because this show said Roseville was worth $900-1500.

Excellent review. I am NOT an antique collector, dealer, etc.

In other words, I am like 95% of the viewing public and this show stinks on ice. Boring, trite and mind-numbingly stupid I will watch "Pawn Stars" instead. HGTV bought 26 episodes of shit.

Look for "Cash & Cari" to be in the bargain bin soon.

I enjoyed your post. We started as antique dealers just six months ago and have space in a large shop with 70 vendors.
I disagree that they are "ripping off" old people. If they were lying to them and trying to make them think their things were worth much less than they are, that would be different, but sometimes they even offer a little more than the asking price on a good find. Of course, dealers can't pay retail or how would they make any profit? I think most people understand that dealers must pay a lower price, but the profit is eanred by knowing what to look for and the amount of time it takes to go all over the place looking for these things. Unless we are being deceptive, I don't think we are all hell bound:)
I do agree that they don't seem as expert as described. I am amazed at some of the exorbitant prices they have offered for things when they really don't know what the value is....and they don't even take a dolly in the van with them to move things?? No wonder their backs hurt! They are funny guys, though, and it makes for an amusing show.
