Antique 1890's Fitchburg Railroad Conductor's Log Book Ephemera Freight Report

This is an antique, handwritten Fitchburg Railroad Co. conductor's log book, featuring detailed entries from 1899. Measuring approximately 8.5" x 3.25", this journal serves as a historical record for "Freight Conductor’s Report of Cars," as specified on the printed column headers. 

The pages, showing authentic age patina and light staining, are mostly blank and unused. Only the first few pages are filled with intricate handwritten script logging train data, including entries for various commodities like "Tobacco," "Shoes," "Meat," "Butter," and "Raisins," - it appears at some point in the late 1800's, someone began to use the book as a ledger. The cover is distressed red marbled paper inset, is detached but present, retaining the book’s historical completeness. This unique primary source document offers a detailed, first-hand glimpse into New England railroad operations and commerce at the turn of the 20th century, making it an exceptional piece for collectors of railroadiana, ephemera, and local history.
