An exceptional 1850s–1860s sixth-plate cased photograph depicting a distinguished young man of mixed race / African American heritage, captured in sharp focus with striking composure. The subject is impeccably dressed in mid-19th-century attire featuring a dark frock coat, matching vest, crisp white pleated shirt, black bow tie, and delicate hand-tinted gold-gilt jewelry accents on his shirt studs and cravat pin, complemented by subtle hand-applied rouge to his cheeks. Housed behind original protective glass in an oval brass mat and foliate preserver within a half leatherette wood case with an embossed floral and scroll motif. In very good antique condition, exhibiting excellent tonal contrast, minimal dust/surface specks under the glass, and honest shelf wear along the exterior case edges. The photo itself is in very good condition with some small spots of loss. Half case only, as pictured.
