Antique James Cherry PA Coal Miner’s Oil Spout Lamp Diagonal Double Mark Cross

I found two of these lamps in a western Pennsylvania estate in an area where coal mining was prevalent, both in similar condition, this one has a small ding. Scarce Cherry lamp circa 1880 with uncommon maker's stamp. The stamped signature is faint, but visible.

This is an authentic, rare early variant of an antique James Cherry miner’s oil wick spout lamp (Plymouth, PA). It features a cylindrical oil reservoir, a hinged lid, a rear hook handle, and a large-diameter spout set at a 45-degree angle. This specific example is defined by its unique, early manufacturer markings: it features a central impressed cross-in-circle symbol on the side of the cylindrical font. Originating above this central cross, the name "CHERRY" is impressed diagonally twice, with both imprints stamping outward in opposite directions (like an upside down "V" shape), framing the symbol. The item shows heavy, authentic corrosion, surface rust, and significant wear consistent with heavy mine use.

Measures about 3 1/2 inches tall. No damage. Wear and oxidation as pictured.
