This is an authentic 19th-century antique brass surveyor's pocket transit/miner's compass manufactured by W. & L.E. Gurley of Troy, New York. The silvered dial face features ornate hand-engraved lettering reading "W. & L.E. Gurley, Troy, N.Y.", a cardinal point compass rose, reversed East and West markings standard for surveying, and two integrated spirit bubble levels. It is equipped with folding brass sight vanes, a needle lifter lock mechanism, and a bottom tripod/Jacob staff mount socket with thumbscrew adjustments. Measuring approximately 4.5 inches in main body diameter, this historical instrument shows rich brass patina, light oxidation, and surface scratches consistent with age and field use.

Fine working condition. Bubbles in levels are intact. Refer to the photos for a better idea of the style and condition, you will receive the exact compass that is pictured.
