Vintage Japanese Carved Wood Toad Frog Inlaid Glass Eyes Sugi Wood Japan Okimono

An authentic vintage Japanese hand-carved wooden toad (kaeru) okimono / figurine, skillfully executed in natural-grain cedar (sugi) wood. The artisan masterfully utilized the natural growth rings of the timber to form rhythmic, concentric "bullseye" whorls that accentuate the raised warty skin texture across the back, brow, and crouched legs. Features inset two-tone amber and black glass eyes that lend a lifelike expression, with cleanly chiseled webbed feet and a carved underside stamped with the country of origin "JAPAN". In excellent vintage condition, exhibiting rich warm patina, sharp carving definitions, and no chips, cracks, or repairs.
